Business
The Business curriculum is designed to develop students’ understanding of how organisations operate in local, national, and global contexts. This course equips students with analytical, strategic, and decision-making skills by exploring real-world business scenarios. It is ideal for students interested in entrepreneurship, management, finance, or marketing, and provides a strong foundation for further study or employment in the business sector.
What will you study?
Students follow the Edexcel A Level Business specification, which includes:
- Theme 1: Marketing and people – customer needs, market research, marketing strategy, managing people, and entrepreneurship
- Theme 2: Managing business activities – finance, resource management, and external influences
- Theme 3: Business decisions and strategy – business objectives, growth, decision-making, and change management
- Theme 4: Global business – globalisation, international marketing, and multinational corporations
Assessment
Assessment is through three written examinations at the end of the course:
- Paper 1: Marketing, people and global businesses
- Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy
- Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment
Each paper is 2 hours long and equally weighted. Questions include data response, case studies, and extended writing.
Entry requirements
To study Business, students should have:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9–4 (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics
- A Grade 5 in GCSE Business, if taken
- A Grade 6 in English and Maths is recommended for success in this subject
