Media Production
Media Production is a practical and creative course that introduces students to the world of digital media through hands-on projects and industry-relevant assignments. This qualification is ideal for students who enjoy working with video, photography, and digital tools, and who want to explore how media content is created, distributed, and consumed in the modern world.
What will you study?
Students follow the Edexcel/Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production, which includes:
- Unit 1: Media Representations – externally assessed exam exploring how media texts represent people, places, and events
- Unit 4: Pre-production Portfolio – internally assessed coursework focused on planning and preparing for media production
- Unit 8: Responding to a Commission – externally assessed assignment based on a real-world brief
- Unit 10: Film Production (Fiction) – internally assessed coursework involving the creation of a short film
Assessment
Assessment is a combination of internal and external components:
- 2 externally assessed units (exam and controlled assignment)
- 2 internally assessed coursework units
The course is equivalent to one A Level and is completed over two years.
Entry requirements
To study Media Production, students should have:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 9–4 (or equivalent)
- A Grade 4 in English Language is recommended
