Year 8 Students Reach Final of Basketball Tournament

On Wednesday 7 December the Year 8 Basketball team travelled to St John the Baptist school for a tournament involving several local schools.

Collingwood was in Pool B with the top two teams from each pool going through to the semi-finals. Collingwood’s group involved Winston Churchill, Chertsey High, St John the Baptist and Woking High.  The boys played extremely well from the very first game and had convincing victories against Winston Churchill, Chertsey High and St John the Baptist.  This meant they came second in their pool and proceeded to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final the boys faced Salesians, and it was a very close game, but the boys rallied well with some excellent defence winning 2-0.

Into the final and the boys faced Woking High and started well and took the lead.  Woking played some excellent basketball though and were clinical with their chances - they came back strongly and were victorious 8-2.

A great achievement by Collingwood to finish runners-up.  Next tournament in the New Year when we look to go one better.
